This workshop will review the key components for operating a successful nonprofit organization.

You will learn:

  • How to define the mission of your organization and what you seek to accomplish.
  • The importance of strategic and business planning.
  • How to work with a board of directors.
  • Communications and outreach approaches.
  • Lessons learned from two nonprofit leaders who are implementing growth plans for their organizations.

Our Panel of Experts:
Cynthia L. Russell is Principal of CrossSector Partners, a management consulting firm specializing in providing services to nonprofit organizations.  Cynthia helps organizations develop growth strategies, obtain funding, and create strong internal systems to operate more efficiently. Cynthia also developed the first nonprofit management certificate program with Norwalk Community College and is an instructor in NCC's Extended Studies and Work Force Development program.
Angela R. Andersen is Executive Director of the International Institute of Connecticut (IICONN), a 96-year old human services agency. It provides Connecticut immigrants and refugees with services to help them become self-sufficient and contributing members of the community. It is a large nonprofit with an operating budget of around $1.4 million.
Kate Morrison is co-founder and Treasurer of Safe Haven for Youth Ethiopia (SHYE), a nonprofit organization providing food, aid and education of school children in Ethiopia. SHYE is a small, five-year old organization with an operating budget of around $100,000.
